Bonnie Basil-Davis begins her presentation
"Amazing Grace" was written by an ex-slave trade Captain.
Sung by __________, who accompanies Bonnie for her presentations. She stands in front of one of several "flip-leaf" posters that present different aspects of modern slavery.
Bonnie uses her husband to pose as the "Slave". Each binding represents some aspect of slavery. Not shown are his bound ankles, which represent his inability to leave his circumstances. Can you guess what the other bindings stand for?
Bonnie is binding her eyes to represent how WE are blind to the circumstances of the "Slave" in our midst. We don't really want to see what is going on.
During the presentation, some local members of the congregation assist in reading the list of nations that have a modern slave problem. That list is long - and the United States of America is on that list. Bet you thought slavery ended with the Emancipation Proclamation!
Bonnie un-blinds herself to continue the presentation.

Men are enslaved too. The psychological results are not exactly what you are tought about American slavery in school. The reality is based on economics, both then and now. The results now have different overtones.
Pure economics - the root of this evil. And sometimes whole families are enslaved by it. Sort of lends credence to the old saying, "No matter how bad you think things are going for you right now, there is always someone much worse off. Sometimes many someones...
