Minutes of Organic Buddies – June 4, 2005

We have two new members–Jeremy Martin and Robin Littell. I will add them to the roster.

The next delivery date will be about June 17th. United is asking for a $10 delivery surcharge to cover the large jump in fuel prices. We voted to divide the charge among all our members. Also they are going to open up a new warehouse somewhere in Indiana (no site chosen as yet). Depending on where it is, we may go there and pick up the order directly from the warehouse. More on this later.

When someone buys a bulk item, and it is shared with others, Adaline has been using her own zip-lock-type bags to re-package the item. We voted to order some zip-lock-type bags for the use of the buying club and charge it against the club’s account.

We decided to meet upstairs in the board room from now on until we get a member who has difficulty with the stairs or unless it’s being used or painted. [This may be a problem for a while, as that room is being used to organize the church library. On the other hand, our designated room is now clear of stuff, and there’s a table in there. More discussion on this next month?]

Next meeting will be on July 2nd. We will continue making our by-laws.

Also up for discussion will be amending our rules to state that the membership fee is "$25 per household" instead of "$25 per family". We had defined "family" in the broadest terms, but we realize that the word "family" can be too exclusive. "Household" may not be the right word, either. We will discuss and vote on this next month.

Also up for discussion will be painting our room.

We continued discussing our by-laws, using the Calumet Natural Foods Cooperative Bylaws as a basis (with their permission). You will find the bylaws with our changes as a separate link
here and on the Organic Buddies page.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Wilson
