Thoughts on a Liberal Religion
Ramblings and rationale from a human being on the road of life.
Entry for October 25, 2007

     Pretty picture just above, isn't it? Although it may look like a conventional "word from on high" picture of some sort that is not the case. I am an amateur astronomer and so a view of any star intrests me. Besides, I like pretty pictures.

     So why a blog?

     Well, why not? I certainly do not claim to speak for the other members of the congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Lima, but I am going to say at least a little something on my own behalf. Then too, I may ask another member of the congregation to say something now and then. I'm easy.

     In the midst of these ramblings, I hope that you will garner a slight feeling for what this Uncommon Denomination is all about. You see, we UUs (that's Unitarian Universalists to those of you who have not been paying attention) have a heck of a time explaining what we are all about.

     Sometimes, we're not too sure ourselves. There is one easy explanation - "One God, Everybody Goes" - to quote the shortest elevator speech ever from the president of the "Mother" organization, the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA). That one gets quoted a lot. It's easy.

     Here is another way of looking at the Uncommon Denomination:

Our religion is;

     Creedless - we have no words shoved down our throat.

     Congregational - we have a polity which puts the local congregation in the driver's seat and their elected representatives at the controls.

     Liberal - our religion encompasses the good in all thought-complexes that pertain to higher values.

     And of course it is many other things as well. But practical matters intervene and I need to start dinner...

There are a lot of Unitarians who are just plain nice, too.
